It is pretty basic to have search on your website and most of our customers with SiteCM Lite or larger licenses include a search in their site design frameworks. So why do we make a big deal about our Search Drop-In Application? Because SiteCM takes search to the next level.
To the right you see the configuration control for our Drop-In Application for Search. It lets you set your label and hint (the text that appears in the search field before people type), the number of results to return and how many search results to include on a page, but it also does so much more.
Permissions Aware: Why is this important? If you are using the Membership component with your SiteCM license, this setting will make sure that only pages that the user has permission to see will be returned in the search. You don't need to worry about a casual visitor stumbling across the minutes from your last AGM, or details on your employee benefits packages.
Target your Search by Type: The default setting is to search all pages and Resources but you can also add Images and News, or you can limit it to only search Pages. Or Resources (it is your site, so you can make the decisions)
Target your Search by Hierarchy: Within each section you can set which sub sections of content you want to search. For simplicity we have left Image and News search options off in this screen capture.
Why would you do this? SiteCM was designed to grow with your web strategy so we have planned ahead.
On our Search and Site Map page, we added the search to the right of the Site Map. It returns 50 results and shows them 10 per page. Users can page through the results without losing the site map to the left.
